Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said Bangladesh was once known for its muslin world. There is a gold refinery factory in the country. Gold will be exported from Bangladesh. Muslin’s reputation can be restored with gold. The demand to set up a ‘Gold Bank’ in the country will be considered.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) office at Bashundhara Shopping Complex on Tuesday.
Tipu Munshi said, “The handicrafts of those who are goldsmiths or gold artists in Bangladesh are very beautiful. They have been doing gold work for generations. Gold will be exported from Bangladesh. It is possible for them to gain fame in the international market through this work. There is a lot of value in this industry. A little bit of gold costs millions of taka. Our exports will also increase a lot.”
The Commerce Minister said, “I am confident that the Prime Minister will agree to the proposal of setting up‘Gold Bank’ as soon as it goes
to her.”
Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan was the special guest on the occasion. He said, “There is a gold refinery factory in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi goldsmiths are famous all over the world. The jewelry industry will surpass the garment industry. If gold is exported to the world, there will be no place to keep money as the price of gold is very high in the world.”
Sayem Sobhan Anvir, president of BAJUS and Managing Director of Bashundhara Group, said, “Development of the jeweler association was not possible without the intervention of the Prime Minister. She is our guardian who has always been by our side. We will export gold from now on.
When I visit our country’s workers in abroad they urged me to set up a gold factory in our country. Beside its now demand of time to set up a Gold Bank in the country.”
